FAQs

What are Permanent Cosmetics?

Permanent Cosmetics is the procedure of artistically placing colour into the dermal layer of the skin. A small amount of pigment is implanted to enhance where hair or colour is missing.

How long does it take?

The initial consultation and procedure will usually take 2 hours. We want you to be entirely happy with our planned procedure before we begin.

Is there discomfort? How long will it take to heal?

A highly effective specially formulated topical anesthetic is applied to the skin. Some discomfort may be experienced but this varies from person to person based on pain thresholds. Many describe it as slightly irritating. We will make every effort to ensure you remain comfortable throughout the entire procedure.

There may be slight swelling and redness to the skin that will subside within a day. You may resume normal activities immediately following your procedure. Healing takes about a week and up to 6 weeks for the pigmentation to mature and reach it’s final colour.

What are the most common procedures requested?

The most common procedures performed are eyebrows, eyeliner, lips, and color corrections/camouflage. The color and shape are designed to match and complement the client’s features and complexion.

Eyebrows can be completely reconstructed in the absence of hair, or a few ‘hair’ strokes may be added to give added fullness to sparse areas – choose either a soft pencil appearance or natural feathering result. Permanent Makeup can enhance the natural features of the eyebrows with customized shaping. According to the shape of the person’s face and bone structure, Permanent Makeup can replace eyebrows that have lost their fullness with age and hair loss, or add defining tones to existing brows.

An eyeliner procedure adds pigment close to the lash line for definition to the lashes and contours of the eye. From a natural, softer or smudged look, to a dramatic look, the thickness and color of the line are customized for each client. Following eye surgeries for medical reasons we are able to re-establish balance and correct scars in the eye area.

Lip procedures most often requested are full lip color or lip liner. Natural lip lines can be corrected for asymmetries in shape or color as well as size. Lip liner can accentuate the lips by creating a more definite lip shape, enhancing the fullness and bringing more color to the lips. Individuals who suffer from having no definite lip shape, pale and gloomy lips, uneven lips or lips that have lost shape as a result of cold sores or injury can all benefit from this procedure. Please note that clients having a lip procedure done may require a prescription if they ever had cold sores/fever blisters/herpes on or around their lips.

Color Correction & Camouflages – Cosmetic tattooing can be used to correct faded and undesired color, as well as camouflaging of scars and re-pigmenting the areola and nipples.

Will I need a touchup?

One touch-up is included in your initial procedure and must be completed between 4 weeks and 6 months of your procedure.

What is a Colour Boost?

In 2 – 5 years, you will require a colour boost as the pigment will fade over time. You can also make further changes and adjustments if you desire at the time of the Colour Boost.

What is the difference between microblading and permanent makeup?

The difference between microblading and permanent makeup is the way the pigment is planted into the skin. Both are tattoo procedures done with hand tools which are much more accurate and more delicate for our faces. Permanent makeup is tapped into the skin while microblading is implanted pigment by dragging the tool (like a scratch) in the form of lines.

Is this permanent or semi-permanent?

The difference between microblading and permanent makeup is the way the pigment is planted into the skin. Both are tattoo procedures done with hand tools which are much more accurate and more delicate for our faces. Permanent makeup is tapped into the skin while microblading is implanted pigment by dragging the tool (like a scratch) in the form of lines.

Explain the microblading procedure.

Microblading is a tattoo procedure where pigment is implanted into the second layer of the skin in the form of fine lines to mimic hair strokes for the most natural look possible. We use 100% disposable hand tools for this procedure. It is not a blade as the term micro’BLADE’ would lead you to believe. It is a row of fine needles. This procedure differs from body art tattooing which uses a machine and ink.

What type of training is needed to perform this service? There seems to be a lot of people with a range of pricing offering this service now.

We offer training to individuals to perform this service however, we strongly encourage our students to get as much experience as possible and practice as possible before opening up a shop and offering this service. This procedure is like an art form and for some students, you can see their artistic talent almost immediately and for others it takes time and a lot of practice to perform well.

We encourage both students who wish to learn the procedure and women who wish to experience the procedure to do their research, ask questions, and take advantage of free consultations to answer their questions and concerns.

Our training is intensive and does provide lessons on all of the BBP blood born pathogens, skin layers, the procedure and the art of fine hair strokes. We also have training on models, real skin vs fake materials where you are not truly experiencing the feel of your work and the implanting of the pigment.
